Akihisa Tomita

Akihisa Tomita received a B.S. and a M.S. in physics from the University of Tokyo in 1982 and 1984, respectively. He studied optical properties of solids under Prof. Nagasawa’s lab, where they discussed on quantum optics, such as the effect of photon correlation in two-photon process and superposition of a photon and an exciton. He joined NEC, where he worked on optical functional devices, semiconductor lasers, and photonic crystals. He received a Ph. D. in electronics from the University of Tokyo in 1998. In 1997, he started his research on quantum information science, and involved in ERATO (later ERATO-SORST) Quantum Computation and Information Project, JST in 2000-2010. From 2010, he is a professor of Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University, where he conducts research projects on quantum cryptography and photonics for quantum information technology.
